Green Commandos proved too strong for Matioli after they thumped them 12-0 to reclaim the Kakamega Central Sub-County secondary schools boys football title during the term 2B games on Saturday.
Green Commands, under the tutelage of Brendan Mwinamo, took an early lead when winger James Mazembe easily beat his marker to slot home after just three minutes.
Mazembe then provided an assist to Evans Odhiambo who nodded in the second from close range a minute later before he scored two more for a first-half hat-trick. Further goals from Bonface Ooko made it 7-0 at the break.
After the breather, Matioli tried to up the ante with Kevin Odongo’s low shot stretching Commandos goalkeeper Marvin Omondi for an unfruitful corner and that was the last they were seen in an attacking sense as a hat-trick from Rodgers Omondi with Odhiambo scoring twice summed up their misery.
“The team played fantastic football and we hope to maintain the spirit in the national championships,” said Mwinamo. In the girls category, Ibinzo retained the title after beating Kilimo 6-0 in another one-sided final with Cynthia Shilwatso,Vivian Makokha and Lilian Mmboga sharing the goal-scoring responsibilities after netting a brace each.
Meanwhile, Mukumu Boys were crowned Kakamega East champions after overcoming Handidi 5-0 at Lugala Secondary School grounds while St Phillips Mukomari edged out Mukumu 4-3 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
The winners of the sub county events booked a ticket to the county championship set to take place this week at Malava Boys High School.
In Kakamega South, defending champions Musingu High School laboured to pip Lirhembe Academy 2-0 thanks to Derick Anami’s brace while in the girls category, Shivagala thumped Burendwa 10-0 in one-sided encounter.
