Grief engulfed Raliew Secondary School after a Form Three student slipped and drowned in Asembo Bay beach in Rarieda on Monday evening.
The student, Robert Larry Onyango, is said to have gone to take a bath at the beach together with his colleagues when the incident happened. East Asembo location acting chief Fred Omino said the students had gone to take bath there following the current water crisis at their school.
“The water shortages in the school prompted the students to bath in the lake,” he said. Omino said the students raised alarm when they saw Onyango drowning which forced the public come to his rescue, but unfortunately he had already died and only his body was retrieved.
The administrator said the body was moved to Madiany Sub-county Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. He, however, warned the public to be cautious while going to the lakeshore, especially with the onset of rains.
