Julius Muhia is Kenya’s latest millionaire courtesy of the country’s leading lottery Lotto after landing Sh1.4 million over the weekend when the 145th draw was held.
Muhia, a potato grocer in Kiserian, Kajiado County only started playing earlier this month after hearing a lady in the market proclaim that she had won Sh400 from Lotto. “I cannot believe that I won.
I was only playing half heartedly and barely a month in, I have become a millionaire! I decided to try my luck and this is one of the best decisions I have ever made,” he said.
“At first, I thought it was not true but after my daughter called to say she had heard my name being mentioned on TV and that is when I believed,” added the father of six.
The win comes as a blessing to Muhia and his family as they are victims of tribal clashes in Rift Valley which forced them to relocate from their ancestral home in Kitale to Kiserian close to four years ago.
Muhia and his wife Mary will now buy a piece of land on which to build a house of their own after living in a rented one since moving to Kiserian.
“Everyone’s dream is to have their own house that they can call home. It was tough when we moved but we have gotten used to it by and with this money, I can finally give my family the home they lost,” he said.
