Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division One Zone B side Kisumu Hot Stars continued with their impressive run after beating Kakamega Boys 3-1 in an entertaining encounter at Moi Stadium, Kisumu at the weekend.
The hosts went ahead after 20 minutes when Mohammed Mbaruk capitalised on Kakamega’s defensive lapses to lash in a low shot to the bottom right corner, leaving goalkeeper Kevin Okeyo with no chance.
After the break, Nehemiah Ochiri’s brace extended Kisumu’s lead before Steve Otieno reduced the arrears for Kakamega three minutes from time with the victory moving Kisumu to second on the table with 35 points.
Meanwhile, hosts Nyakach United gained revenge over Naivasha-based Timesales United, beating them 2-1 in a match that was marred by sideshows. Derek Otieno scored both goals for Nyakach, the first after 29 minutes before he completed his double on the hour mark via the penalty spot after James Otido was brought down in the box.
James Waruinge scored the consolation for Timsales in the last minute of regulation time. In their second match, Nyakach were held to a 1-1 draw by Lubinu in Kakamega on Sunday, the visitors opening the scores through Dan Oketch before Alex Munyendo combined well with Dominic Opiyo to level the scores for the home side.
The draw leaves Lubinu in sixth position with 23 points from 16 matches. Elsewhere, Isibania FC bounced back from two identical 1-1 draws to beat visiting Bondo United 2-1 at Isibania Customs Ground on Sunday.
The Division One Zone B leaders were frustrated in the first half by a determined Bondo before they broke the deadlock after the break with Lucas Weitere netting the first in the 53rd minute before teeing up Jared Nzire in the 65th minute for the second.
Bondo pulled one back in the 77th minute from a free kick. Unbeaten Isibania now lead the standings with 48 points following 15 victories in 18 matches. Reports by Viden Ochieng, Gibo Zachary and Fred Likuyani
