An MP has called for tougher laws, including the death sentence or castration of rapists. Murang’a Women’s Representative Sabina Chege said the number of small girls being defiled was on the rise and said deterrent action should be taken on offenders.
She said she is considering tabling a motion in Parliament that would make defilement a capital offence whose penalty is death or castration for those found guilty. “Cases of men defiling girls as young as three years are on the rise and these beastly acts must stop. The law should not be lenient on the culprits. I propose that they be sentenced to death or castrated,” said Chege.
She was speaking in Kandara after distributing water tanks to primary schools. Chege, who is also the Parliamentary Education Committee chairperson, also expressed concern over cases of teenage pregnancies and marriage of school girls.
