“We are looking at the larger picture, Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), but this title is equally important.” Those are the words of Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma after the team held their training yesterday morning ahead of today’s third group match with Zanzibar.
Ouma has used the same squad in the two matches with impressive results and as they face bottom-placed Zanzibar, he is set to make light changes to allow some players a rest ahead of the semi-finals.
Starlets are top of Group A with maximum six points after registering identical 4-0 wins against hosts Uganda and Burundi respectively while Zanzibar have shipped in the most goals, 10 against Burudni on Sunday and nine in their second group match with Uganda.
“The team may have lost the two matches but that will not dictate how we play them. Every match has its own dynamics and the Islanders will be taken with as much seriousness as other teams,” added Ouma.
With two months left to the AWCON tournament in Cameroon, Starlets’ performance in this competition and previous tournaments is shaping them up for the battle ahead.
