A helpline to report sexual assault cases has been unveiled in Nairobi. The helpline will enable women in distress and those facing threat of attack, including molestation to send a text to toll-free number 21094 to receive help.
ActionAid, Wangu Kanja Foundation and Nairobi County Government have partnered to roll out the initiative to stem rising cases of gender-based violence and rape in the city’s notorious slums.
Speaking at the launch in Mukuru kwa Reuben slums, ActionAid executive director Bijay Kumar said the organisation has stepped up war on rape that stalks country’s capital.
He exuded confidence saying most rape attacks will be averted once women embrace the platform as a tool to fight sex pests. A victim who sends a distressed text will be linked to police on patrol to nab the offenders.
