Vihiga Allstars fought from a goal down to force 1-1 draw with high riding Vihiga United in a local Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Western Super league Zone ‘B’ derby played at Chavakali High School.
It was Edward Manoah’s side, United, who, first expressed intent in the third minute when Chris Masinza controlled a lofted pass on the right wing but saw his low shot fail to threaten Stars keeper Ambwere Anderson.
Ten minutes later Stars player-coach Francis Chinjili evaded three tackles from United players but his effort went wide from a close range. The match which witnessed a lot of tension saw several players being cautioned by Webuye-based referee Moses Simiyu with both teams playing cautiously forcing the match to go at break scores standing 0-0.
After the break Manoah introduced former AFC Leopards striker Joseph Okumu for Atinda Jacob who inject in some pace at the back of the Stars, which bore fruits in the 55th minute when Ambeva Denis headed in Micheal Isabwa’s cross.
The hosts leveled the scores in the 81st minute after Augustine Kuta converted from the spot resulting from United goalkeeper Caleb Wambalwa’s foul on Stars striker in the area. United are perched on top of the table with 25 points from 13 matches, while Allstars have 21 from 14 matches.
During the match, FKF Western branch chairman Andrew Amukowa donated uniforms and ball worth thousands of shillings to both Vihiga United and Vihiga Allstars.
