Technical University of Kenya (TUK) are the winners of this year’s SportsPesa Super Eight tournament after they beat Kamukunji’s Kiambiu Youth 4-2 on post match penalties at the Nyayo Stadium to pocket a winner’s purse of Sh 500,000.
The match had tied 2-2 in regular time, where Kiambiu opened the scores through Lawrence Musili who beat Tuk’s custodian Paul Maina with a powerful volley from the centre of the field in the 13th minute.
Bonface Okomo replied for TUK in the 26th minute after he was left unmarked inside Kiambiu’s box and fired a low shot that beat a stretched Vincent Odhiambo in the Kiambiu post for the teams to go to half time tied 1-1.
On resumption, Kiambiu’s speedy marksman Collins Oduor scored the second goal in the 55th minute but Tuk’s Patrick Ochola headed in an equaliser in the 76th minute. Both teams pushed for a winner and Kiambiu’s James Mandela wasted three clear chances that could have settled the duel in normal time.
Kiambiu’s head coach Mavin Dacha after the match blamed his defence for the loss. In an early match at the same venue, Masaa United beat Kawangware United 3-1 to settle for the third spot.
